The W.E. “Bill” Mason Carousel has a very rich and long history, and the horses share in that history. Groovy, who is named after a prominent BJWRR supporter, is one of two horses on the carousel that was built specifically for the W. E. “Bill” Mason Carousel.
When the BJWRR acquired the carousel, all of the structure and horses were in need of a lot of work. Once restoration began, the BJWRR realized that they only had 29 horses, just 1 short of completing the rows. There were twenty nine hand carved wooden horses and two chariots. There are positions for thirty horses. A mold was fashioned as a copy of one of the center row horses in the style CW Parker Manufacturing and a fiber glass resin replica was cast in the mold to add the 30th horse thus Groovy was born. Another horse (Phantom) was also created by the mold as well.
The BJWRR still has the mold that made these horses, so if the need ever arises, more horses can be made in the style of Groovy and Phantom.
Groovy was adopted April 20, 2021
