Special Skills Needed: we have a need for the following special skills:

- Diesel Engine/Hydraulic mechanic:  Our diesel locomotives are diesel/hydraulic and having a knowledgeable mechanic would greatly help our volunteers when questions arise.

- Carousel horse woodworkers:  We need woodworkers to sand and refinish our carousel horses.

- Grant Writer/Fund Raiser:  Grant writer will solely focus on writing grants for specific areas. This work will encompass specific projects that the railroad will need to apply for grants. Fund Raiser will put together campaign to raise funds for specific items. This work will only come up in the event the railroad needs to raise extra funds.

Locomotive Engineer: up to 2 shifts a month. Scheduling will be based on volunteer preference, but we do require a minimum of once per month to remain active. Shifts can be either a full day or a half day.

Throughout the year we operate the steam engines as often as a qualified steam engineer is available, and if not then we operate the diesel engines. The morning startup shift for steam operation starts 4 hours before the first train is scheduled to run.

Tuesday Maintenance Crew

Our Tuesday volunteer crew works on the Carousel and all the locomotive maintenance, as well as maintenance on the passenger cars, buildings, and all other miscellaneous maintenance.

Track maintenance is always an ongoing project, and one that often needs extra hands.

Not retired yet and can’t do Tuesdays? No worries, there is always maintenance work to take care at the railroad. Let us know your skills, and we will place you with the right project.

Gardener/Grounds Keeper

Hours are scheduled as needed to take care of the garden area and grounds. Hours are flexible to work with any schedule. Work will entail getting the garden ready to plant flowers, planting flowers, and keeping up with watering and upkeep. Grounds work will include cleaning up the station area on the tracks, picking up leaves, and making sure everything looks ready for operations.
